Goal #1: Time Management
Managing class work, working a full time job in the Army, and attempting to start a business all require an abundant amount of time to be successful. Especially when taking some of the other parts of your day into account. Things like going for a run and/or going to the gym, grocery shopping, spending time with family, work commute, and even just giving yourself a few minutes to unwind all add up over the course of the day.
SO what is the strategy to be successful with all these things? For me, I have to break my day down into pieces. My day starts quite early and I begin with a run. This helps me get that blessed dopamine release and helps calm my mind and body to allow me to focus the rest of the day. I then will spend the rest of my morning through lunch with incredible focus on getting my must accomplish work related tasks done. I give myself the standard hour long lunch break to doom scroll, visit with my wife, take a walk, or whatever I am feeling that day. I come back and spend the rest of my afternoon focused on school and personal business tasks. This brings me to my second point. Using a daily planner is unmatched. Writing down the tasks you want/ need to accomplish each day is game changing. It keeps you on track but also provides a sense of accomplishment as you cross it off and watch you list shrink each day. This is an ESSENTIAL in my opinion. Once I have accomplished those tasks within the time limit I set for myself, I head home and spend my evening with my wife and dog. It is impossible to be successful if you do not take care of yourself and your relationships. Foster good relationships and personal care, and you foster success. This is a massive soap box I can get on but will save for a different forum.
Goal#2: What do I hope to achieve by learning how to create engaging content?
I have been posting to Social Media for a little while now (specifically Instagram) and I have felt like it has been very erratic and borderline useless given I have seen only small growth. I would like to take a systematic approach that is rooted in research and knowledge to reevaluate my approach. I want to figure out what I need to be doing to improve my reach, engagement, and following. Second, I would like to see if, through the same systematic approach, my content is actually high quality or is need of some work. It is an honest question that I want the answer to. If you never know you are bad at something and are constantly told you are amazing even though you are not, then you are never forced to grow and learn and improve because you have no idea you need to change something. This is my second soapbox of this post I could do a deep dive on. But I won’t… for now… However, I do believe regardless how good you think you are, you can ALWAYS learn something new. So that is why I want this course. Because I frankly want to learn as much as I possibly can to help me create a successful business.
Goal #3: How does a marketing course help me achieve what I want with my career?
Well, for starter, go re read Goal #2 because it more or less answers this question! But to add to it, I have an engineering background, am a trained Army Artillery Officer, and have about a years worth of professional finance and budgeting experience with the Army. I know that I can problem solve, I know I can perform under pressure, I know I enjoy challenging myself, and through all that, I have learned I have a lot to learn. There is nothing I feel more qualified to teach someone how to deal with than the art of being underqualified. It is a terrifying experience I am sure most of us deal with. But it is also awesome. The anxiety of that feeling, if you learn how to harness it in a healthy way, provides you the discipline and motivation to learn, adapt, and ultimately grow as a person and as a professional. So, that is what I am doing here. Learning, adapting, and growing so I can take it and apply it and hopefully teach at least one other person how to do it to.
